About This Game
Street Fighter II is the game that turned the versus fighting genre into a worldwide phenomenon. Eight world warriors — Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, E. Honda, Blanka, Guile, Zangief and Dhalsim — each with a unique special move, fight through a single-elimination gauntlet to reach the four Grand Masters: Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M. Bison.
The six-button layout, the blocking system, throws, and motion-input special moves (the fireball, the dragon punch, the sonic boom) defined competitive 2D fighting for the next three decades. The World Warrior is the original 1991 release; its Champion Edition and Turbo revisions tuned the balance and added mirror matches, but this first version is where the template was set.
- Eight playable characters with unique special moves
- Six-button light/medium/heavy punch and kick layout
- Blocking, throws and projectile combat as genre foundations
- Four Grand Master bosses guarding the final ladder

Sheng Long (rumour)The famous fake hidden characterA documented 1992 arcade rumour claimed a hidden master named Sheng Long appears if you never take damage through Sagat. No such character exists in the game — it remains fighting-game history's most famous hoax.
Tips & Strategy
Blocked specials are free damage
When an opponent blocks your special move, you are wide open. Train yourself to confirm the hit — if they block, stop pressing buttons and prepare to defend, because a blocked dragon punch is a guaranteed punish in return.
Jumping is a commitment
Once airborne you cannot block, and anti-air attacks (Guile's flash kick, Ryu's crouching fierce) will catch you. Jump in only when you have read a fireball or a recovering opponent, not as a habit.
Throws beat turtling
Players who block everything get eaten by throws. Walk in and press both heavy buttons next to a blocking opponent for a free chunk of damage — and remember the same trick works on you.
Learn one punish combo
A crouching strong into a special move connects on most characters and costs no meter. Having one reliable punish, even a two-hit one, doubles your damage in casual play.
