About This Game

Samurai Shodown II (็œŸใ‚ตใƒ ใƒฉใ‚คใ‚นใƒ”ใƒชใƒƒใƒ„) is widely considered the peak of SNK's weapons-based fighting series. Set in the late Edo period, it trades Street Fighter's combos for deliberate, lethal spacing: a single strong slash can end a round, and the Rage gauge, weapon-loss and disarm systems make every exchange a negotiation.

Each fighter carries a distinct weapon and fighting style, plus a Slash and Bust variant with different special moves โ€” effectively doubling the roster. New mechanics over the first game include the hidden sneeze stun, the aerial rejection, and an expanded cast including the comedic referee Kuroko as a hidden fighter. It is slow, tense, and still unlike anything else in the genre.

  • Weapons-based duels where one read can end the round
  • Slash and Bust character variants with distinct specials
  • Rage gauge that powers up your damage when hurt
  • Weapon clashes, disarm losses and the weapon-recovery scramble

Tips & Strategy

Respect the strong slash

A heavy slash connects slower than a kick but does colossal damage. Whiff-punish them by stepping back and countering โ€” the player who respects spacing wins in this game, not the player who presses more buttons.

Manage the Rage gauge

Taking damage fills your Rage gauge and boosts your output. When it flashes, pressure your opponent โ€” your attacks hit measurably harder until the round ends or the gauge resets.

Losing your weapon is not losing

Disarmed players fight faster barehanded and can dive for the dropped sword. Sometimes running unarmed and reclaiming the blade under pressure is stronger than fighting the scramble.

Learn one fatal combo per character

Because damage is so high, a single confirmed strong slash into special usually decides the round. Drill one reliable route for your main instead of collecting many half-remembered ones.
