About This Game
Super Mario Bros. 2 is the odd one out - and that is exactly why people love it. Nintendo rebuilt Doki Doki Panic into a Mario game, so instead of stomping enemies you pick them up, carry them, and throw them at each other. Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Toadstool are all playable, and each handles differently.
The game has no time limit and a health meter instead of power-ups, and every stage ends by pulling a hawkmouth's tongue or throwing a vegetable at it. Its dream-world setting, Subcon, gives the designers licence for surreal enemies - Shy Guys, Birdo, Triclyde, Fryguy - and its vertical, exploratory level design is closer to a puzzle platformer than the original. Luigi's high jump, Toad's speed and the Princess's floating jump make character choice genuinely meaningful.
- Four playable characters with distinct jump, speed and strength stats
- Pick up and throw mechanics instead of stomping
- Health meter and no timer - exploration-friendly level design
- Surreal Subcon dream setting with enemies imported from Doki Doki Panic

Tips & Strategy
Luigi is the beginner pick
His jump is the highest and he hangs in the air longest. Almost every hard gap in the game is easier with Luigi than with Mario.
Toad digs fastest
Toad pulls up vegetables and dig spots far faster than anyone else, which makes him the best character for stages that are mostly item hunting.
Throwing is a weapon
Thrown vegetables and enemies kill everything in a line. Do not clear a stage by jumping - carry something and throw it.
Check every potion spot
Potion jars open the Subspace door where you collect mushrooms. Most 1-Up routes live in the Subspace half of a stage.
