About This Game

Spy Hunter is a conversion of Bally Midway's arcade driving game, in which you drive the G-6155 Interceptor - an unarmed-looking sports car that is actually a weapons platform - down a highway full of enemy agents trying to run you off the road.

The hook is the weapon loadout and the road itself. You have machine guns and oil slicks, the enemies have the same, and the road forks: taking the wrong branch puts you on a bridge that closes faster. Reach the weapons van and you can swap the car for a boat, which turns the same chase into a river run. The arcade original is remembered for its Peter Gunn theme and for the fact that it is one of the few driving games of the era where the environment is genuinely out to get you rather than just being scenery.

  • Weapons van pickups that convert the car to a boat
  • Machine guns and oil slicks, mirrored by the enemy cars
  • Branching highway with routes that can close behind you
  • Endless chase structure with escalating traffic density

Tips & Strategy

Oil slick the chasers, not the traffic

The enemy agents are the ones who can actually kill you. Dumping a slick for a civilian car wastes the charge.

Take the weapons van every time

The upgrade is worth a detour, and the van also grants a one-hit shield while you are entering it.

Stay centre until the fork

The road splits quickly. Centring the car gives you both options; drifting to one edge commits you early.

Boat sections are easier

Once converted the surface is wider and enemies come in predictable lines. Use the boat stretches to rebuild a lost margin.
