About This Game

Mega Man 4 introduces the Charge Shot - hold the fire button and the Mega Buster builds into a blast that pierces through small enemies. It is the single biggest change the series made after the slide, and it means you are never truly out of ammunition.

The story pivots on a mysterious new character, Dr. Cossack, who appears to be the villain this time before the game reveals who is really behind it. The eight Robot Masters - Toad Man, Bright Man, Pharaoh Man, Ring Man, Dust Man, Dive Man, Skull Man, Drill Man - each have a stage built around a specific gimmick (darkness, magnets, rising water), and the game adds a ball machine minigame and a Wire Adaptor as a hidden utility item.

  • Charge Shot - hold fire to build a piercing blast
  • Eight Robot Masters with gimmick-driven stages
  • Dr. Cossack, the series' first apparent false villain
  • Hidden Wire Adaptor and a ball machine bonus game

Tips & Strategy

Always charge between shots

There is no downside to holding fire constantly. Charging while walking means a full-power shot is ready the moment an enemy appears.

Toad Man first

His pattern is trivially interrupted by shooting him while he dances, and his Rain Flush weapon carries several mid-game fights.

Find the Wire Adaptor

The hidden Wire Adaptor in Pharaoh Man's stage lets you pull yourself to ceilings, opening several secret routes and extra lives.

Charge Shot does not replace weapons

Bosses are still weak to specific weapons. Charging is for stages and minor enemies.
