Iceborne Build Guide โ€” The Skills Every Hunter Should Wear

Oct 2, 2026 ยท VaultGames Editorial ยท Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter's build system is really a question of which armour skills you can fit into five slots, and in Master Rank the answer is surprisingly consistent. Weakness Exploit is the best damage skill in the game for almost every weapon, because it dramatically boosts your critical hits on the monster's weak points. Critical Eye and Critical Boost follow directly โ€” the first raises affinity, the second raises the damage multiplier on critical hits โ€” and together they form the core of a raw damage set. Attack Boost fills whatever space is left.

Before any of that, though, take Health Boost. Master Rank monsters hit hard enough to cart an under-geared hunter in two hits, and Health Boost is the single cheapest survivability upgrade available. Divine Blessing reduces incoming damage at random and is quietly one of the best defensive skills in the game. If you are struggling with a specific fight, swapping offensive decorations for defensive ones is always a valid answer rather than a sign of weakness.

Gear comes from Master Rank monsters themselves, and the real endgame loop runs through the Guiding Lands, where you gather materials for weapon augmentation โ€” an upgrade that adds affinity, attack, health regeneration or elemental damage directly to a weapon. Decorations, the jewels that grant these skills, drop from tempered monsters and from the rotating event quests that are specifically designed as decoration farms. Run those whenever they are available and your build will come together far faster than grinding ordinary hunts.
