Hogwarts Legacy Money Guide — Fast Galleons and Better Gear

Oct 2, 2026 · VaultGames Editorial · Hogwarts Legacy

Galleons only really matter for two things: spell recipes from Hogsmeade and broom upgrades. The fastest early source is also the most overlooked — Eye Chests scattered across the world. They cannot be opened until you learn the Disillusionment spell, but once you have it, each one hands over a large lump sum, and there are dozens of them. Opening them is a pure movement puzzle: hide, walk up, and take the gold. Prioritise them over any amount of combat grinding.

Gear works differently to most RPGs. Every piece you find scales to your current level, which means a legendary item you find at level 12 is garbage by level 20. Do not hoard gear or agonise over which piece is best — equip the highest-stat item of the right slot and sell everything else at Hogsmeade, because the shop pays well and the inventory cap will force you to clear it anyway. Before selling, check whether a piece has a trait you can extract at the Room of Requirement; traits are permanent and transferable, and they are the only real source of endgame power.

Later, the loom lets you stack offensive and defensive traits on your best gear, and upgrading an item's level at the Enchanted Loom is far cheaper than chasing new drops. Combine that with a broom upgrade — bought with Galleons but worth every coin for exploration — and you will rarely need to think about money again.
