How to Beat the Wandering Wight โ€” Early Boss Guide

Oct 2, 2026 ยท VaultGames Editorial ยท Black Myth: Wukong

The Wandering Wight is the bulky yaoguai you meet early in Black Wind Mountain, and it is entirely optional โ€” if it keeps flattening you, walk past it, level up on minions, then come back. Its damage is built around a handful of very readable animations: a heavy two-handed slam that sends out a shockwave, a spinning sweep that catches anyone trying to circle it, and a lunging grab that punishes panic rolls away from its body.

The single biggest mistake is dodging backwards. The slam's shockwave travels outward, so rolling away from the boss puts you directly into the damage. Dodge toward and through the swing instead โ€” the Destined One's dodge has generous invincibility frames, and closing the distance means you start your punish already in range. After the slam he stands still for a beat; that is your window. Two or three light hits, then disengage rather than reaching for a fourth.

Keep Immobilize for the middle of his combos, when a freeze guarantees a full charged heavy instead of a glancing hit. If you have a transformation in reserve, save it for the second half of the fight, when his attack strings get longer and one mistake can end the attempt. Lock on during the fight for consistent facing, but break the lock briefly when he leaps away so you can reposition instead of whiffing at air. Patience beats aggression here: bait the slam, punish, reset.
