About This Game
Ikari Warriors is SNK's conversion of its rotary-joystick arcade shooter. Two commandos, Ralf and Clark, fight north through a jungle to reach the enemy general, and the arcade original's defining gimmick - a joystick you could twist to aim independently of movement - is what the NES version has to fake.
With a d-pad the aim rotates by holding a direction, which makes the game noticeably harder than the arcade. The compensation is that two-player co-op is kept, and so are the vehicles: you can climb into tanks and a helicopter and use them until they are destroyed. Its place in history is partly for the continue code - the ABBA sequence - which became one of the most passed-around secrets of the era. The level design is unforgiving in a very 1986 way: enemy fire is constant and the jungle narrows around you.
- Rotating aim, approximated on a d-pad by holding a direction
- Two-player simultaneous co-op
- Drivable tanks and a helicopter with their own firepower
- Vertical jungle campaign with no checkpoints between sections

Tips & Strategy
Grab the tank and stay in it
Vehicles absorb several hits and their cannon clears a lane. Getting out to fight on foot in the open is almost always the worse trade.
Walk north with your aim set back
The aim stays where you leave it. Setting it behind you and advancing covers the enemies that spawn at the screen bottom.
Grenades clear what bullets cannot
Turrets and dug-in positions ignore rifle fire. A grenade at the right angle is faster than working around them.
Split up in co-op
Two players on the same lane block each other. Taking opposite edges of the screen keeps both guns firing.
