About This Game
Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is the high point of the NES trilogy. Set two hundred years before the original, it follows Trevor Belmont as he fights his way through Wallachia toward Dracula's castle, and it introduces the series' branch-path structure: at certain points the route splits, and different paths lead to different allies.
Three companions can join Trevor - Grant DaNasty, a wall-climbing pirate; Sypha Belnades, a magic user; and Alucard, Dracula's own son. Each replaces your sub-weapon with something entirely different, so the branching map is really a choice of playstyle. Add the best music on the NES, a password system, and stages that take real practice, and you have the game many fans still call the definitive classic Castlevania.
- Branching stage routes leading to three different playable allies
- Four playable characters with completely different abilities
- Hitoshi Akamatsu / Konami Kukeiha Club soundtrack, still widely cited as NES best-in-class
- Password save system for resuming progress

Tips & Strategy
Grant opens shortcut routes
Grant can climb walls and ceilings. Several vertical sections that look like dead ends are trivial with him - take his path if you want an easier run through the middle of the game.
Sypha melts bosses
Her fire spell hits multiple times per cast. Against large, slow bosses like the Cyclops it out-damages the whip by a wide margin.
Alucard trades defense for mobility
Alucard can turn into a bat to skip entire sections, but he takes more damage. He is the speed-runner's choice, not the beginner's.
Learn the falling-block timing
Several late stages hinge on dropping platforms. Do them at walking speed - running into a block chain almost always means a fall.
