About This Game
The X-Men arcade game is the loudest thing Konami ever shipped. Six players at once, a screen-wide 'Welcome to die!' from Magneto, and a four-cabinet setup that arcade operators loved because it printed quarters.
The six playable X-Men - Cyclops, Colossus, Dazzler, Nightcrawler, Storm and Wolverine - each have a screen-clearing mutant power with a cooldown, and managing that cooldown is the game's real system. Stages follow a loose Sentinel-and-Magneto plot through a city, an island, a future timeline and the moon, with a genuinely large number of enemies on screen at once. What makes it remembered, though, is the writing: the entire script was translated by someone who did not speak English, and lines like 'X-Men! Welcome to die!' became memes decades before memes were a thing. Konami's four-player board was the standard version, with a six-player cabinet requiring two linked machines.
- Up to six players simultaneously on linked cabinets
- Six X-Men, each with a screen-clearing mutant power on a cooldown
- Stages spanning the city, an island, the future and the moon
- Famously garbled English script, including 'Welcome to die!'

Use the mutant power as a panic buttonClears the screen but has a cooldownThe power is limited, not consumable. Saving it for a crowded screen beats using it the moment it is available.
Tips & Strategy
Do not all use powers at once
The cooldown is per player. Staggering them keeps the screen clear far more effectively than four at once.
Wolverine is the easiest pick
His claws have short range but no recovery. A new player survives longer with him than with anyone else.
Use throws on armoured enemies
Sentinels and heavy enemies shrug off normal hits. The throw animation is the reliable answer.
Keep the group together
The game scales enemy counts with players present. Splitting up means each player faces a full wave alone.
