About This Game

Final Fight defined the modern beat 'em up. When the Mad Gear gang kidnaps Jessica, the mayor of Metro City and former wrestling champion Mike Haggar takes the law into his own hands โ€” joined by her boyfriend Cody and his training partner Guy โ€” across six stages of brawling through slums, subways and a glass-elevator finale.

Everything players associate with the genre started here: the two-button attack/jump scheme with combo strings, the shoulder throw that also works as crowd control, food pickups, weapons like knives and pipes, and a life bar that refills between sections. Its CPS-1 sprites set the visual bar for years, and its DNA runs through every beat 'em up that followed.

  • Three iconic fighters: Haggar, Cody and Guy
  • Combo system with directional attacks, throws and crowd control
  • Weapons (knife, pipe, katana) and food pickups
  • Six Metro City stages with a two-player simultaneous mode

Tips & Strategy

Haggar's pile driver is the answer to everything

Grab an enemy and Haggar can piledrive them for massive damage. Against bosses it is the fastest kill in the game โ€” walk into the boss from behind and repeat.

Keep the knife if it drops

The knife throws forward and knocks enemies down at range, and it survives until you take a hit. Playing keep-away with a knife makes the crowded slum and subway stages trivial.

Watch for the jump-in ambushes

Enemies love to dive-kick as the screen scrolls. Anticipate the drop point after each scroll and attack it preemptively rather than walking into a landing kick.

Cody for balance, Guy for speed

Cody's balanced kit and knife usage suit new players; Guy's dash and rapid punches clear crowds faster but take more skill. Haggar teaches spacing through raw damage.
